The accident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. at an unattended intersection between a road and a railway, at a location where the train, according to police, was estimated to be traveling at around 80–100 kilometers per hour.

Police said the car was on its roof after the collision. One passenger remained in the car while the other got out. Police said they were conscious before being taken to hospital.

"It's an ongoing rescue operation, so we don't know anything about the damage," police spokesman Johnny Gustafsson told TT just before 3 p.m.

There are no reports of any injured train passengers. The train remains on the track, and the route is closed.
