"Employers should be inspired by and build on the cooling-off breaks used during the World Cup and work with unions to give all workers the right to breaks without pay cuts," the umbrella organization ETUC writes in a press release.
ETUC - which brings together most of Europe's trade unions, including the Swedish LO, TCO and Saco - has presented its own proposal for what common European protection rules should look like.
The proposal points out, among other things, that the number of deaths in the workplace linked to heat has increased by 42 percent in the EU since 2000 - faster than anywhere else in the world.
