Trade from Shein and Temu Slows Down

The Swedes have in recent years purchased increasingly from China, not least from low-price companies Temu and Shein. But at the end of 2024, growth slowed down, according to figures from the Transport Companies.

Last year, over 200 million packages were sent from e-retailers to private individuals in Sweden, an increase compared to the previous year, according to the Transport Companies' package index.

In recent years, the sharp increase in the number of foreign packages has been driven primarily by the Chinese platforms Temu and Shein. However, by the end of 2024, a slowdown in growth was seen, landing at 0.9 percent compared to the last quarter of 2023.

The transport companies point to, among other things, the political debate surrounding the companies, both in Sweden and abroad. The EU Commission promised as recently as yesterday to take tougher action against the platforms.

"Shopping from Temu and Shein is perceived as both easy and cheap. At the same time, they have been heavily criticized for both inadequate environmental sustainability work and poor social conditions," says Marcus Dahlsten, CEO of Transport Companies, in a press release.
