Toyota Hits Record Sales, Plans US Price Increases

In the home market in Japan, May sales increased by 4 percent, in China the increase was 7 percent and in North America it was a plus of 11 percent.

The sales successes are based on increased demand for Toyota's hybrid cars.

Toyota, which also sells cars with the Lexus brand, has announced that the prices of the company's cars in the USA will be raised by over $200 next month as a result of the trade war between the USA and China, which risks hitting Toyota hard.

Only in April and May, Toyota expects a profit impact of approximately 10 billion kronor from the Trump administration's tariffs and countermeasures.

The sales figures also include sales at the subsidiaries Daihautsu Motor and Hino Motor.

Japanese competitors Honda Motor and Nissan Motor had headwinds in May. Honda's global sales fell 4 percent to 298,167 cars, while Nissan's fell 6 percent to 256,159 cars.
