The accident occurred on Friday evening. According to surveillance cameras, the man, who was alone, was sitting on the outer wall of the ancient temple when he lost his balance and fell seven meters.
A passing priest noticed that the man was lying on the ground and alerted the emergency services, writes the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
When the ambulance arrived at the scene, the man was already dead.
