Tadej Pogacar has been in the lead for most of Tour de France, and was so when it was time for stage 19 on Friday.

Then Pogacar won the stage, and thereby takes a big step closer to his third overall victory in the classic cycling competition.

The 26-year-old Slovenian now leads the overall standings with five minutes ahead of Dane Jonas Vingegaard and has seven minutes down to Belgian Remco Evenepoel.

Second on the stage was American Matteo Jorgenson, followed by Simon Yates, Great Britain. They were 20 and 40 seconds behind Pogacar at the finish, respectively.

Pogacar won Tour de France in 2021 and 2020.

This year's edition ends on Sunday, July 21.
