Serie A's bottom team Monza has only won one of 17 league matches since Nesta took over the club last summer.
Not much to hang on the Christmas tree, in other words. And with the meager yield, the club management had no thoughts of giving Nesta a Christmas break. The day after the 1-2 home loss to Juventus, he was fired.
Monza's only win so far this season came in October via 3-0 against Hellas Verona.
Now, there's probably no hardship for Nesta, the old star defender who was part of lifting the World Championship trophy in Germany in 2006. He had a long and successful career in Lazio and Milan.
Monza has not publicly announced who will take over as coach. The club plays in the league again already on Sunday, away against Parma.
