Malmö FF restarted their women's team in 2020 in division 4 and have since stormed through the league system. The Scanians secured a spot in Damallsvenskan 2025 after taking home the Elite Division – the team's fifth consecutive promotion – with 21 wins in 26 matches.
But they won't have an easy start to the 2025 football year. The Damallsvenskan premiere (played 21–24 March) takes place away against BK Häcken, last season's runner-up. The home premiere will then be against last year's fifth-place team IFK Norrköping the following weekend.
In addition, they have already been drawn against local rivals Rosengård – a team that was once called Malmö FF – in the Swedish Cup group stage.
MFF has dominated on the men's side for many years. Now, they have initiated an effort to eventually be able to join the top tier on the women's side as well. Ahead of next season, they have already recruited several established Damallsvenskan players – including Stinalisa Johansson, Ellen Löfqvist, Sara Kanutte Fornes, and Tuva Skoog – and an even bigger name is rumored to be on the way.
According to information from Sydsvenskan, it is already clear that last year's winner of the Diamond Ball, national team midfielder Elin Rubensson, will join Malmö FF. The 31-year-old recently broke her contract with American Houston Dash.
