Svensson got off to a great start at TPC Craig Ranch, recording nine birdies and a first-round 63 (par 71). However, the 30-year-old golfer was unable to match that form.
Instead, Svensson had two birdies and three bogeys, dropping him from a tie for second at -8 to -7, still within striking distance of the lead.
Things went better for Kim Si-Woo. The South Korean looked set to finish the round in 59 strokes, which would have been the 16th time in PGA Tour history a player had finished a round in under 60 strokes. A bogey on the final hole put a damper on that, but he still holds the lead by five strokes.
