Goaltender Linus Ullmark played his eighth game since returning from an NHL hiatus, but didn't have a successful night. The Swede had a paltry 87% save percentage.
In the other net, Jacob Fowler had a much better game. The American made 32 saves for his Montreal team and was the game's hero.
Despite Ottawa being outshot 13–5 in the final period, Montreal scored the decisive goal just over halfway through the third. The visitors thus ended Ottawa's three-game winning streak.
