Tough Competition in Melodifestivalen - Gothenburg

The gaming companies and the genre public believe in Klara Hammarström and Kaliffa. But many of the contestants agree that it's hard to predict who will make it to the final tonight. It's harder than last week. I'm trying to disconnect from thinking about it, says Erik Segerstedt.

According to the betting companies, Klara Hammarström and Kaliffa will go directly to the final from the qualifying round in Gothenburg tonight.

In the Melodifestivalen Club's survey, where 942 people in the audience were asked about their favorite during the dress rehearsal on Friday evening, Erik Segerstedt took third place.

It's the first time he's participating in Melodifestivalen as a solo artist. Previously, he has competed with Danny Saucedo and Mattias Andréasson in EMD and with Norwegian artist Tone Damli.

"A burden and an honor"

It's both a burden and an honor to compete solo. I lean more towards the honor, it's great to be alone and have everything revolve around me. It's an ego boost, he says.

How would you feel if you didn't make it at all?

I would be disappointed. I think everyone who's participating would be. If you say you wouldn't be, then you're lying. That's why we're here.

Kaliffa is a debutant in Melodifestivalen contexts. His contribution "Salute" is tipped to go to the final, but he himself is staying away from speculations.

I've heard there are some odds. But I can't keep track, it only disturbs my concentration. I'm just trying to ignore it and go with the feeling.

How was the feeling during the dress rehearsal?

It felt totally okay. No, it was awesome. With an audience in the arena, it becomes a different thing. When we rehearse, I can get a bit bored and start thinking too much. I like it when it just flows.

Hammarström's clothing problem fixed

For Klara Hammarström, things have been going worse during rehearsals, as she's had problems with the 3D-printed top slipping down during the number. But during the dress rehearsal, everything sat as it should – in every sense.

There are a few small fixes left, but they're things the audience won't notice.

What do you think about your chances?

Last time I was in, I went straight to the final, but I've also been eliminated directly, it happened here in Gothenburg. But I feel that if it happens, it's meant to be. Everything happens for a reason.

Fredrik Lundman and his country contribution were in fourth place with the betting companies, but have now dropped to fifth. This shows that the outcome tonight is still uncertain.

It would be a gigantic honor to represent my genre in a final. But I dare not even think about it. I'll just step up and deliver as much as I can.
