A couple in their 30s in Hultsfred municipality abused their lodger in torture-like forms, Kalmar District Court has ruled. Now, the two are sentenced to one year and eleven months in prison, reports P4 Kalmar.
The man lived with the couple for over a year. According to the verdict, the couple, among other things, held him captive, cut him with a knife, and burned him with a lighter on his arms.
Furthermore, they took control of his finances. From the spring of 2023, they transferred his entire monthly salary to their accounts, and later took over his bank ID, reports Barometern.
In total, over 200,000 kronor are said to have been transferred from the man's account to the couple. During the time they controlled his finances, he was forced to collect cans to afford to buy lunch.
The couple is now convicted of, among other things, aggravated assault and aggravated usury. The woman will also be deported after serving her sentence and is not allowed to return to Sweden for ten years.
