Not only did the Norwegian, who was wearing the yellow leader's jersey for the day, lose contact with the group before he had passed halfway through the sixth stage, but on the descent that followed the admittedly tough climb up the Col du Tourmalet, Torstein Træen crashed badly.
He did finish, but more than 30 minutes behind stage winner and reigning champion Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian also took over the overall lead, two minutes and 42 seconds ahead of Dane Jonas Vingegaard in the general classification.
