26-year-old Russian Martjenko, Columbus' leading scorer for three consecutive seasons, has signed a six-year contract with Toronto. According to the hockey league's website, the contract is worth an average of 125 million kronor per year.
23-year-old American Knies played last season in Toronto's first team and scored 66 points.
In the all-star draft, Swedish defender Emil Andrae also had to change clubs. The 24-year-old left Philadelphia for Toronto in June, but did not even have time to make his debut there before the transfer package now goes to Columbus.
Both Toronto and Columbus are in action when the NHL season begins with five games on Wednesday night, Swedish time.
