Girls work more as summer jobs than boys, 57 percent of girls studying at high school did it last summer, against 49 percent of all boys.
The best-paid summer jobs were in smaller municipalities, often in tourist areas. Strömstad, the border town to Norway with much trade, had the highest median salary, 23,200 kronor per month, among high school youth.
Then come Borgholm on Öland, Perstorp, Tanum and Jokkmokk, according to the Swedish Statistical Office's (SCB) review.
"High school students in smaller municipalities outside the metropolitan regions, and in municipalities that are often associated with a large number of job opportunities in the tourism industry, tend to have work to a greater extent. Here, the median income is also often higher," says Lukas Gamerov, statistician at SCB, in a press release.
