"We have been informed that he is quitting for private reasons", writes Bertil Pålsrud, Norwegian representative in the International Ski Federation's (Fis) equipment committee, to TV 2.

It was the federation's competition leader Sandro Pertile who revealed the news that Kathol is leaving Fis at the annual spring meeting on Thursday.

The Swiss was highly involved when the Norwegian ski jumpers were disqualified for manipulating their jumping suits at the VM in Trondheim. He also expressed great criticism regarding the situation.

It was a sad day for ski jumping. Manipulation at a high level, said Kathol to VG.

After the disqualification, which resulted in Marius Lindvik being stripped of his silver medal, Kathol received much criticism, writes TV 2.

Christian Kathol himself has not commented on his departure.
