A "clear and immediate threat" to New York's Jewish population. That's what Israeli Consul General Ofir Akunis calls the Democratic Party's candidate for mayor in Tuesday's election.
On Israeli military radio, Akunis claims that Zohran Mamdani, if elected, would allow “pro-terrorist protesters, falsely labeled as pro-Palestinian,” to march and cause riots on the streets of New York, according to Haaretz .
Akunis belongs to the Likud party in Israel, the same party as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and has previously served as a minister.
He claims on the radio that the election of Mamdani poses a threat to Jewish institutions and synagogues, and that a warning should be issued to all Jewish communities in New York.
