Top 3 Swedish Footballers in the Premier League

Sweden has produced many foreign professionals in football, including those who have played in England. However, it's never been as many strong Swedish players in the Premier League as there are now.

Looking back in history, there are many Swedish footballers who have played in the Premier League, but only a handful who had significant roles. We remember Fredrik Ljungberg in Arsenal (1998-2007), Olof Mellberg in Aston Villa (2001-2008), and Sebastian Larsson in Birmingham & Sunderland (2007-2011 & 2011-2017).

Since these three hung up their boots, it's been relatively quiet from Swedish footballers, except now. There are especially three players who stand out, and one who is expected to have a bright future in the Premier League.

Alexander Isak, center forward for Newcastle United

One of Newcastle United's most valuable players, along with Bruno Guimarães and Anthony Gordon, Isak is valued between 60-90 million euros (Transfermarkt valuation is 75 million euros). Eddie Howe has praised Alexander and believes he is one of the world's best strikers and doesn't want to let go of his golden gem, which has been rumored to be wanted by the best clubs in the world. Alexander Isak has been in top form this season, scoring 17 goals and 5 assists in 23 Premier League matches.

Dejan Kulusevski, midfielder for Tottenham Hotspurs

Dejan, also known as Deki and Kulu, has been phenomenal this season in Tottenham Hotspurs, who have had a tough time in the league, just above the relegation zone. Kulusevski has been praised by experts as the best player in Spurs this season, with many key players injured and the team not performing well under Ange Postecoglou's team-building. Ange has highly praised Kul and given him a lot of responsibility, playing him in various midfield and attacking positions throughout the season. Dejan Kulusevski is valued at 60 million euros by Transfermarkt. He has scored 6 goals and 4 assists in 24 Premier League matches this season.

Anthony Elanga, midfielder for Nottingham Forest

Anthony Elanga didn't get much trust during his time at Manchester United, where he mostly came off the bench. It was similar at his current club, Nottingham Forest, but now Elanga has really found his form and has been given a lot of trust by coach Nuno Espírito Santo. According to Transfermarkt, Elanga is valued at a modest 25 million euros, but he has every chance to improve his interest from top clubs after this season. Elanga has scored 3 goals and 8 assists in 24 Premier League matches this season.

Bonus: Lucas Bergvall, midfielder for Tottenham Hotspurs

Few believed that Lucas Bergvall, formerly of Djurgården IF, would get any playing time in Spurs this season when he signed with the club just after turning 18 in the spring of 2024. It was also almost no playing time at first, but with the long list of injured players in Spurs, there are hardly any senior regular players to fill the starting lineup, so Lucas has gotten a lot of playing time and started in several matches. Lucas, still a teenager and only 18 years old, has done well and many predict that he will have a bright future in the Premier League
