The head of the American financial supervision Gary Gensler will leave the same day as Donald Trump officially becomes the country's president in January. The news came at the same time as the cryptocurrency bitcoin hit a new record of 98,473.64 dollars on Thursday.
Gensler has advocated for an aggressive stance towards digital currencies and treated them as traditional financial securities such as stocks and bonds. Something that has not been appreciated by the incoming president Donald Trump.
At a bitcoin event in Nashville last summer, Trump promised that he would fire Gensler on his first day in the White House due to his tough scrutiny of crypto companies.
