The products, which are stored in one of the EU's warehouses in Dubai, will be flown to Adana in Turkey, near the Syrian border, and distributed in the country over the coming days. An additional 46 tons of aid supplies will be driven from a warehouse in Denmark to Adana and then distributed by the UN's Unicef and the World Health Organization.
According to the UN, one million people – mainly women and children – have been forced to flee since the rebel offensive, which led to the overthrow of dictator Bashar al-Assad, began.
An additional four million euros, equivalent to 46 million kronor, will be used to cover the most urgent humanitarian needs, according to the EU Commission. This includes, among other things, trauma assistance, emergency tents, sanitation assistance, and the distribution of food packages in northern Syria.
