The main stage at the Belgian Tomorrowland – one of the world's largest festivals for electronic dance music – started burning heavily on Wednesday, local media reports. The festival will still be held, according to the organizer.

”We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident”, the festival writes in a post on Instagram during the evening.

According to the Flemish TV company VRT the stage has almost been completely destroyed, but the fire is now under control. About a hundred people from the rescue service are working to extinguish the fire.

It also started burning at another location due to flying sparks, but that fire could be quickly extinguished.

The festival was not scheduled to start until Friday, but about 1,000 people who work for the organizer were on site, VRT reported. A spokesperson for Tomorrowland says during a press conference that ”the festival will be carried out, even if it will be without the main stage” – but how is still unclear.

The festival in the town of Boom is held annually and attracts thousands of visitors.

It is not known how the fire broke out.

The town's residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke development.
