Sweden lost 0–1 at home to Kosovo in the World Championship qualifying. Blågult remain on one point after four matches played, but the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson will not resign. I have a contract with the Swedish Football Association and we are in the middle of a qualifying, he says.

Sweden is in a difficult situation with two matches left to play and with just one point, the team is a whole six points behind second-placed Kosovo. A placement that guarantees World Championship playoff in March. Switzerland tops the group with ten points.

Why are you the right man for the job after just one point in four matches?

It's of course a terrible result. It's killing us. We weren't good enough. We concede cheap goals and it seems like we've forgotten how to score goals.

How does it come to this?

I have no good explanation. I don't know.

Isn't it your task to make sure the team does it?

Yes, it is, but I can't do it myself.

The national team captain says that he feels he has the players' trust and that they believe in his playing idea.

Most players have said it themselves too.

"Have a contract"

He is asked several times if he is the right man to take the team forward.

I have a contract with the Swedish Football Association and we are in the middle of the World Championship qualifying. It's of course not good enough, a terrible result tonight. It hurts like hell. We give away an easy goal and have forgotten how to score goals. It's not good enough, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.

According to Alexander Isak, the way you play doesn't work. How do you view that some players doubt?

I don't think they doubt, but of course we didn't do well enough. It's crazy that we don't score goals today. We need to analyze the match with some distance. We are in a very dark place. There won't be much sleep tonight.

It's not good enough, I've said it, the players say it. When we start scoring goals on the chances we create, we will hopefully get results.

Tomasson has no plans at all to step down with the matches against Switzerland (away) and Slovenia (home) left in the World Championship qualifying.

Wants to continue

He wants to continue.

Yes, we are in the middle of the World Championship qualifying. We have started terribly but there is an opportunity to turn it around.

You won't resign?

No.

Do you deserve to continue, are you good enough for the job?

Right now, no one is good enough for the job, not just me, says Tomasson.
