Sweden's National Team Sticks with Winning Midfield Against Algeria

The national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson does not change a winning central midfield. Yasin Ayari, Anton Salétros and Hugo Larsson all get the chance again when Sweden take on Algeria at the national arena in Solna. It will be fun. A new task to try to show people that we are a good team, says Ayari.

The trio started on the central midfield even when Sweden won against Hungary with 2–0 in Budapest on Friday.

Primarily, Dahl Tomasson seems to be curious about studying Hugo Larsson again.

I have not seen Hugo so much. Ayari and Salétros have done well. Even Jesper Karlström will get minutes, the national coach said at the press conference before the match, the last one before the World Championship qualification in September.

Ayari's importance to the national team under the Dane is obviously great. The midfielder from Brighton in the Premier League has frequently received Dahl Tomasson's trust.

He is an excellent player and has been so during my time. And he is still young. We want to play in a way that entertains and he can entertain.

”Deserves to play”

Ayari, low-key in character and not much for big words or verbal digressions, states that it is fun to play football and not least in the national team.

But he also says:

I think I deserve to play. When you have received a lot of trust, you can take more responsibility, but everyone helps each other so it's quite easy.

The rapid development from a potential future national team player to almost a guaranteed starting player has not gone unnoticed by Ayari.

I am proud and happy with myself. Sometimes you have to pat yourself on the back and be satisfied with what you have accomplished. It is big what I have done, but it is just to continue.

What is it that makes your way of playing fit so well into how the national coach wants the national team to play?

He has been clear that we should play with a lot of ball possession and forward. That is exactly what I am good at. I just try to do what I am good at and Jon seems to like it, says Ayari.

Johansson in goal

It has been clear for some time that Blågult will make a change on the goalkeeper position, where Viktor Johansson will start instead of Robin Olsen.

Approximately 15,000 spectators, including around 2,500 Algerian fans, are expected to attend the match on Tuesday evening at Strawberry arena.

A team that is undefeated in 12 matches. I want us to face a different opponent. It could be good before, hopefully, the World Championship. They play a fast football, a bit like you play on the street, says Dahl Tomasson.

A team with many individually skilled players, good one on one. It is about being connected, says Yasin Ayari.
