Last season's top scorer has started the season even better than the previous one. In SHL, he leads both the goal-scoring and points leagues after seven goals and six assists in seven matches.
And when Färjestad hosted Czech Trinec in CHL, he scored a hat-trick.
Decided in Overtime
The first goal came after just over eight minutes, when he angled in a fine pass from teammate Per Åslund. The second goal he scored himself, when he snapped the puck in a bit into the second period.
Visiting Trinec looked set to leave empty-handed for a long time, but a lightning-fast comeback at the end of the third period took the match to overtime. But even there, Tomasek would prove to be the deciding factor.
A direct shot later, and the Czech had completed his hat-trick and decided the match with his 3–2 goal.
Takes Hold of the Lead
The win not only means that the team took revenge for their previous loss against HV71. It also means that Färjestad has taken hold of the lead in the main round of CHL.
After five wins out of five possible, the Karlstad team now solidifies its lead in the table, with only one match left to play. In the final match, which takes place on October 15, Färjestad will face Norwegian Storhamar.
Meanwhile, the other two Swedish teams played, with mixed results.
Skellefteå defeated Hungarian Fehervar 4–2, but for Växjö, it was a loss against Austrian Red Bull Salzburg 1–3 after surrendering the lead to a deficit in the third period. Despite this, both teams also look set to advance to the playoffs.
