After successes such as "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "Let the Right One In", Alfredson has primarily worked in Sweden in recent years. He has done the TV series "Deceitful" (2025) and the film "Look Out for Jönssonligan" (2020).
In the new film, Rachel Weisz plays a self-proclaimed medium who stages a kidnapping to prove her alleged supernatural abilities. "Séance on a Wet Afternoon" is based on Mark McShane's novel from 1961 and the script is written by Jack Thorne ("Adolescence").
Alfredson describes the project as a "creepy exploration of desperation and the boundary between reality and illusion". Rachel Weisz is also co-producer through her company Astral Projection.
This will be Alfredson's first film to have a cinema premiere since "The Snowman" in 2017, since the Jönssonligan film did not go up on cinema due to the pandemic.
