“Digger” is a prestige project for superstar Tom Cruise and Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu that cost upwards of $180 million, equivalent to 1.8 billion kronor (about $171 million). Marketing the film is said to have cost another $100 million.
But audiences were disappointed by the social satire, which stars Tom Cruise as the boisterous oil mogul Digger Rockwell. “Digger” grossed just $8 million in North America and another $12 million worldwide, putting Warner Bros. on track to lose a billion kronor (about $95 million).
