The film company Paramount announced this at the CinemaCon film fair in Las Vegas.
Tom Cruise first played the role of the daredevil fighter pilot "Maverick" in "Top Gun" in 1986. It then took almost 40 years before the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick" was released in 2022.
Variety also reports that Jerry Bruckheimer will be a producer, as with the first two films.
It is not yet known when the third "Top Gun" film will premiere.
