The American actor Tom Cruise was awarded the French Legion of Honor by France's Culture Minister Rachida Dati in Paris on Friday.
Among previous recipients are Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese, and Clint Eastwood, writes Variety.
The Legion of Honor is France's highest state order. It was established by Napoleon in 1802.
Tom Cruise is currently in Europe to film "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two".
