Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71. "We lost a good friend today", writes US President Donald Trump on his platform Truth Social.

Ambulance personnel were sent to Hogan's home in Clearwater, Florida, early on Thursday morning after an alarm about a cardiac arrest, reports TMZ Sport.

Recently, information has been circulating about Hogan's failing health, but his relatives have stated that he is recovering from operations he underwent in May.

In a statement on Facebook, the police state that Hogan was declared dead at the hospital, writes the news agency AP. The death is also confirmed by promoter Eric Bischoff, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Hulk Hogan – whose real name was Terrence Gene Bollea – was strongly involved in making professional wrestling a family sport. His theatrical performances in the ring attracted both children and their parents, writes TMZ.

He has also participated in various Hollywood productions, including the film Rocky 3 from 1982.

Hogan is also known for his involvement in several infected controversies and lawsuits outside the ring.

Last year, he spoke at the Republicans' convention where he praised the "hero" and "gladiator" Donald Trump.

"Hulk Hogan was Maga (Make America great again movement, ed. note) through and through", writes the president on his platform Truth Social.

The wrestling organization WWE regrets the death in a statement.

"Hogan, one of the most well-known people in pop culture, helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE expresses its condolences to Hogan's family, friends and fans", it says.
