Timrå had lost three straight games and had taken just two points in the first six rounds. Frölunda, on the other hand, had taken 17 of a possible 18 points. Timrå were also without injured goalkeeper Frederik Dichow.
When Frölunda took a 1–0 lead (Filip Hasa) after the first period, few probably expected anything other than another win for the visitors.
But two early power-play goals in the second period, by Marcus Hardegård and Anton Heikkinen, turned things around for Timrå. In the third period, Eddie Genborg extended the lead to 3–1 before Dylan Mclaughlin made it 4–1 into an empty net.
Jacob Johansson also impressed in goal, making 24 saves.
“This was really important for us. I think we’ll be able to build on this,” Eddie Genborg told TV4.
Timrå remain at the bottom of the standings, but are now level on points (5) with HV71.
With Frölunda’s loss, Färjestad took over the league lead with a 5–1 win away to Skellefteå in the top-of-the-table clash.
