In 1973, Tim Curry appeared on stage in a small production that his friend Richard O'Brien had written, "The Rocky Horror Show." The sexually ambiguous alien scientist Frank-N-Furter would become Curry's role of a lifetime, and both he and the 1975 film version became cult classics.
Curry returned to the role several times, both on stage and for television, but also frightened many as the horror clown Pennywise in the 1980 film adaptation of Stephen King's "It", and amused audiences as the hotel doorman Macaulay Culkin tries to avoid in "Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York".
In addition to his film career, he often appeared on stage, including as Mozart in the first production of "Amadeus" on Broadway in 1980, and a quarter of a century later as King Arthur in Monty Python's "Spamalot".
In 2012, he suffered a stroke, but continued to work. Tim Curry turned 80.
