A total of 1,010 interviews were conducted with people between the ages of 18 and 29 by Novus, on behalf of TikTok.
The book recommendations on BookTok have the greatest impact among the youngest. Three out of ten 18- to 22-year-olds “often” find new books via TikTok. In the oldest age group, 27- to 29-year-olds, only one in ten use the platform in this way.
How do TikTok tips compare with reviews from culture sites? 38 percent of respondents found them to be about equally reliable, while 21 percent said they trusted the platform less.
The survey is being presented as the Gothenburg Book Fair takes place.
