The settlement costs TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, $400 million (nearly SEK 3.8 billion), Axios reports.

In exchange, the charges that TikTok violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act are dropped, without further legal action or the company having to admit wrongdoing.

“This settlement is a major victory for American children and parents,” said Assistant Attorney General Stanley Woodward in a press release.

The case is based on a lawsuit that former President Joe Biden's administration filed in 2024 against the then entirely Chinese-owned TikTok.
