Tigray rebels battle Ethiopian government forces, seize several airports

Anti-regime Tigray rebels in northern Ethiopia are fighting government forces and have taken control of several airports, several sources told AFP.

Sporadic fighting has taken place in recent months, raising fears that a new war may be about to break out.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) fought a bloody war against government forces between 2020 and 2022. According to the African Union, an estimated 600,000 people were killed during the war.
