Anti-regime Tigray rebels have taken control of the airport in the regional capital of Mekelle in northern Ethiopia, sources told AFP.
An airport employee told the news agency that he was on his way to work when his boss called and told him to return home because no flights were operating due to the takeover.
A security source at a Western embassy in the country confirmed that Alula Aba Nega airport had been taken.
