The golf legend, who turns 50 in December, has been operated on in the lower back and got an artificial disc implanted.
"I chose to have my disc replaced yesterday and I already know that it's a good choice for my health and my back", says Woods in a statement about the operation that was performed on Friday.
There is no timetable for when he can return to the golf course. Tiger Woods has been away since the British Open last year.
Tiger Woods has won 15 major titles – the second most in history after Jack Nicklaus' 18 – and taken a total of 82 victories on the US tour, the latter record is shared with Sam Snead.
