According to local media, the tiger is said to belong to controversial tiger trainer Carmen Zander, better known as Germany's 'tiger queen.' Criticism has been leveled at the facilities, with critics saying they do not provide sufficient security.

The 72-year-old attendant at the private facility was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The tiger was one of eight kept at the facility, but none of the others escaped.

The city's mayor has urged the owners to move the other animals after the incident.
