A Tibetan former communist top official is conditionally sentenced to death after having received bribes for more than 343 million Chinese yuan – nearly 465 million Swedish kronor, reports a court in China.
The man, Yingjie Wu, was party secretary in the autonomous region of Tibet between 2016 and 2021.
The court considers his crimes to be "particularly serious" and to have caused "particularly large losses" for the country and the people.
Wu has admitted to the crimes and has thereby been granted a two-year reprieve from the sentence.
Conditional death sentences are usually converted to life imprisonment if the sentenced person does not commit any further crimes during the reprieve period.
