It will be an all-American semifinal in the US Open tennis with Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz. Which means a home player in the final on Sunday – for the first time since 2006 on the men's side.

Home favorite Frances Tiafoe defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals of the US Open after the Bulgarian broke in the fourth set due to injury. The winning score was 6–3, 6–7 (5–7), 6–3, 4–1.

It wasn't in this way that I wanted to win, but I'm of course happy about another semifinal here. It's incredible, says Tiafoe

The win means that 26-year-old Tiafoe will face his compatriot Taylor Fritz in the semifinals, who defeated Alexander Zverev from Germany in his quarterfinal. The fact that both are from the USA means that an American will play in the grand slam tournament's final on the men's side for the first time since 2006.

It will be mine and Taylor's biggest match in life. We've known each other for so long and have met since we were kids. So getting to meet him here will be fantastic, says Tiafoe.

Tiafoe, who is ranked tenth in the world, lost his form last summer but has found his way back to a higher level again in recent weeks. Last week, he reached the final in the major tournament in Cincinnati.
