The girl was found by a private person at 18:00 in a pond in Viken in Höganäs municipality. Rescue services and an ambulance were alerted to the scene and began heart and lung rescue, reports Helsingborgs Dagblad.
The police also rushed to the scene. The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance, but her life could not be saved, the police tell the newspaper.
A report of causing another person's death has been filed because the police want to find out if any adult has breached their responsibility.
We want to investigate how the girl could end up alone there in the pond, says Fredrik Bratt, press spokesperson for the police, to HD.
No suspect has been identified yet in the case, but the police do not rule out that someone may become a suspect in connection with the death.
