Before the end of the first period, another Swede scored for the opposing team when Mika Zibanejad scored for the Rangers on the power play.
But it wasn't enough. The Islanders pulled away in the second period. Holmström again assisted on one of the goals.
Teammate Emil Heineman made it 5–2 for the Islanders in the second period. The final period was scoreless.
