Four Norwegian skiers have died in an avalanche in the French Alps. According to local officials, the Norwegians were swept away by the avalanche.
The deceased were part of a group of seven Norwegians who were skiing in Val-Cenis, at the border with Italy.
All were caught in the avalanche. Four of them were originally reported to have survived, but a fourth victim died after being taken to hospital. The other three from the group have been described as unharmed.
The group was equipped with avalanche transmitters, as they were skiing off-piste, says Val-Canis mayor Jacques Arnoux to AFP.
It was a large avalanche, which was triggered outside the ski area, he added.
