The attack was reportedly carried out on Wednesday, the military writes on X.

The US has carried out repeated attacks on alleged smuggling boats in the Caribbean and Pacific since September last year. More than 200 people have reportedly been killed since then.

No concrete evidence has been presented by the US that the vessels were involved in drug trafficking. Earlier on Wednesday, however, Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the deadly attacks, which he said had put an end to cartels in the region.

"If you don't confront these groups, they will devour these countries alive," he told reporters during a visit to Ecuador, according to AFP.
