The murder suspect is in his 20s and denies the crime. This was stated by his lawyer Sabina Saidi during Monday's detention hearing at Uppsala District Court.
The man who was arrested on Thursday evening – two days after the triple murder near Vaksala Square in central Uppsala – was nevertheless detained by the district court. The court believes that he is likely suspected of murder in three cases.
Two more people were detained on Monday, both on probable grounds suspected of aiding and abetting murder, reports UNT. It concerns a man in his 20s and a person under 18 years old, both of whom deny.
That's where we stand in the investigation, and we will be questioning them, says prosecutor Andreas Nyberg to TT.
One released
For a fourth person whom he also wanted to see detained for aiding and abetting murder, Uppsala District Court decided to lift the detention. The prosecutor's suspicions remain, however.
The identities of the suspects are still being kept secret, despite the fact that they have been detained, which has become increasingly common in gang-related cases in Sweden due to concerns about revenge attacks.
The shooting inside the hair salon near Vaksala Square in central Uppsala occurred at around 5 pm on Tuesday last week. Three young people were found at the scene. Among the victims was a 15-year-old boy who was a student at a primary school in the municipality and a 16-year-old high school student in the city.
Prosecutor Andreas Nyberg is very tight-lipped and does not want to comment on any potential gang connections or the sequence of events as such.
I don't want to go out with that exactly at this point, it's something the investigation will show, he says about how many people were in the premises when they occurred.
More at risk
There was, however, a risk that more people could have been injured, he says.
There is another person who has been assigned a victim's counsel, where the charge is attempted murder. There may be one or more additional persons who can be considered victims, it's something we're investigating.
The investigation is being conducted with "a lot of personnel and large resources", according to Nyberg.
It's analysis of seized items, cooperation with NFC (National Forensic Centre), crime scene investigation with technicians. There's a lot of information being collected and that we need to process to put together a puzzle.
Three other men aged 25-45 who were previously detained in the case were released on Friday. The prosecution against the men, who were suspected of incitement to murder, is still ongoing.
