A total of 1,000 drones have been launched by Russia against Ukraine in the last 24 hours.

"I can't remember any other attack during the day with this large number of drones," said a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force.

Five people were killed overnight on Tuesday. The deaths were reported from the Poltava, Zaporizhia, Kherson and Kharkiv regions.

Iranian drones

The unusual daytime attack killed at least two people and injured four others in the western Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk, according to the region's governor. Another person was killed in the Vinnytsia region.

Powerful attacks were also directed at the city of Lviv, where residential buildings caught fire.

"Iranian "Shahed" attack drones, modernized by Russia, have struck a church in Lviv. It is completely depraved, and only someone like (Russian President Vladimir) Putin could see this as something attractive," Zelenskyy said in his evening speech.

No will for peace

The scale of the attacks makes it extremely clear that Russia has no desire to end the war.

The extensive attacks took place after Zelenskyy warned in a video speech on Monday evening of a massive Russian attack.

"There is information from our intelligence that the Russians may be preparing a massive attack," he said.

Corrected: In a previous version, the wrong day of the week was included for Zelenskyy's warning.
