We do not feel completely satisfied with this, as you understand, and I think some of the staff are not doing great in this, says Andreas Bengtsson, rescue chief in Kristianstad.
The alarm about the accident came at 22.06 on Sunday evening. At a height with Linderöd in Kristianstad municipality, a car had rolled over, gone off the road and started burning.
The two adults who were found injured, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s, were taken to hospital, both with serious injuries. The woman later died at the hospital.
Found during towing
After about an hour, the rescue service left the scene. When the car was then towed, the two deceased children, both under the age of ten, were found. One child was found in the car and the other outside.
In connection with the movement of the car, it is observed that there are two children involved in the accident. It is clear that one can wonder why it took so long, says Andreas Bengtsson.
He emphasizes that experienced firefighters participated in the rescue work. They had received information from callers that two adults were involved in the accident and, in addition, the car had both rolled over and burned heavily.
The rescue chief has difficulty believing that the delay affected the outcome for the children.
In this situation, I have difficulty thinking that we would have had a different outcome. I cannot see it.
"Black ice on site"
The accident occurred in poor road conditions.
The patrol on site has reported that there was black ice on site and thin ice on the road. We'll see if we can get to the bottom of what happened, says police investigator Johan Berntsson to Kristianstadsbladet.
The police are investigating the accident as a possible crime against the traffic regulations and causing another person's death.
This is how we work with this type of accident, says press spokesperson Jimmy Modin at the Skåne police command center.
