The players were suspended from national team activities by the federation after allegations of sexual assault in connection with the 2018 JVM gold celebration. All five players were acquitted in court last year.
However, an independent panel has determined that the five players violated the association's code of conduct and in three of the cases, the suspensions from games under the auspices of the Canadian association are being extended, the association writes in a statement. For three of the players, the punishment was extended as a result of the panel's decision.
The longest suspension will go to Michael McLeod, who is suspended until November 10, 2030. Carter Hart and Dillon Dubé will be allowed to return in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
Cal Foote - who recently signed for SHL club Färjestad, but whose contract was quickly terminated after strong criticism - is suspended until November 10 of this year. Only Alex Formenton will have his suspension lifted immediately.
All of the players have consistently denied wrongdoing and last year they were allowed to sign with NHL clubs.
