At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday, the shooting victim, who is under 18, was found outside and taken to hospital. The person's injuries are not life-threatening.
The injury situation is now assessed as stable. The person remains in hospital, says Johan Hårderup, deputy local police chief in Södertälje, to TT.
Two taken into care
Two people under the age of 15 have been taken into custody. One is suspected of attempted murder and the other is suspected of aiding and abetting attempted murder. A third person, who is an adult, is also being held on suspicion of aiding and abetting attempted murder.
According to media reports, one of the people in care had escaped from a treatment center.
"I cannot comment on that information but must refer to the confidentiality of the preliminary investigation," says Hårderup.
“Don't back down”
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) tells TT that the Ministry of Justice has been in contact with the police.
I have read the information and it is very serious. It concerns two people under the age of 15 who have been arrested and the victim is also a child. My thoughts go out above all to the victim, his family and relatives, says Strömmer and continues:
If it turns out that this is gang-related, it is a reminder that there is no room for society to back down in the fight against gangs, says Strömmer.
Johan Hårderup says that the police have completed their investigation at the crime scene.
