Camera surveillance using drones will take place from January 27 to April 27 over parts of Kungsträdgården, Blasieholmen, Östermalm, and Diplomatstaden in Stockholm. According to the decision, it can operate around the clock, and the material will also be stored through recording.
Not all the time
However, according to the police's press spokesperson Ola Österling, the surveillance does not operate around the clock.
Absolute not, it's certain times we're out. It's only a fraction of the day's hours that we have the drones up, says Ola Österling.
In the decision on surveillance, which was made on January 24, the police write that the surveillance is motivated by threats against Jewish interests in Stockholm. The area being surveilled includes, among other things, the Great Synagogue and the Israeli Embassy.
"Due to recent events and the current world situation, the Police Authority has decided to increase surveillance of Israeli and Jewish interests in Sweden", it states in the decision.
Secret scope
The events mentioned are that a sharp object was found at the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm in January 2024, a shooting incident near the embassy on May 17, 2024, an explosion near the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen on October 1, 2024, and a shooting incident at an Israeli company in Gothenburg on October 10, 2024.
Österling does not want to disclose the scope of the drone surveillance in the affected areas since January 27.
I'm not going to answer that question since it's covered by secrecy.
