His supporters protested on the streets and chanted, among other things, "impeachment is invalid".

The Constitutional Court decided on Friday that the president should be removed immediately after being convicted in the impeachment proceedings. The court ruled that the declaration of a state of emergency and martial law did not meet the legal requirements for a national crisis.

The Constitutional Court's decision destroyed our country's free democracy, said 26-year-old demonstrator Yang Joo-Young on Saturday.

The prolonged process has increased tension in the country with weekly demonstrations for and against the ex-president, and given fuel to right-wing extremist support for Yoon.

On Friday, people were also seen hugging and celebrating on Seoul's streets over the president's removal.
