More than 4,500 suspected ISIS members captured in Syria have been transferred to Iraq over the past month, an Iraqi official said, in a move carried out by the US military.

In total, it may be necessary to move around 7,000 people to secure prisoners previously held by Kurdish-led forces in Syria.

The operation began in January after Syrian government forces took control of areas previously held by the Kurdish-led SDF.

Among the prisoners are Syrians, Iraqis and Europeans.

Recently, Iraq's judiciary announced that investigations have been launched into prisoners taken from Syria.
